What makes us different from the rest?

We know and understand our area, its idiosyncrasies, its highly “specific and local” geography and demography and just as importantly, the local economy. Urban areas like Barrow in Furness, Kendal, Carlisle and Workington may well be in the same county and within easy reach of one another by road and rail, but they have very marked differences. The same applies to the market towns and villages which differ tremendously for its near neighbour let alone its adjacent district.

With the economy in the county of Cumbria and north Lancashire there can be significant variations in types of housing, prosperity and movement of labour. Our area also has a very high proportion of listed buildings with many fine houses from the Victorian era and earlier. Interestingly, Cumbria has more listed church buildings than the rest of the country which demonstrates its pronounced localised culture and geography.

But with us it is not just about buildings, we have extensive knowledge of the rural aspect of our geographical area and its marker places, such as

Tim ButlerTim Butler FRICS – Chartered Valuation Surveyor, Auctioneer

Tim born was in Ulverston and commenced his Career in Property Valuation and Auctioneering with Alfred Mossop & Co in Ambleside in 1969 upon leaving school, and worked in the Ambleside and Kendal Offices until the mid 1970’s.

He then worked in the local area, as a Valuation Surveyor & Auctioneer (having qualified in 1977) for CG Lowden Barrow in Furness, and was closely involved in the sales and surveys and valuation of properties together with conducting auction sales of properties and antiques.

Following this he worked for Ulverston Auction Mart/Harrison Coward being again closely involved with the sale by auction, and valuation of all types of agricultural holdings, and livestock.

He spent a time working with Furness Building Society as Staff Valuation Surveyor covering the Furness, Cumbria and North Lancashire.

He then moved to Melbourne Australia where he helped establish Protech Australia a Facilities Management Company which is now part of the Worldwide FPD Corporation.

Later Calgary Canada, he worked in Commercial Real Estate valuation and asset management becoming an Associate Director of Knight Frank and Stanton Hillier Parker.
